Frequently Asked Questions

  • The Bespoke Journey

WHAT DO I NEED TO START THE PROCESS?

All you need is a very rough idea of what you would like. We'll ask you some questions about favourite colours, gems or shapes to gain a better understanding of your individual style. If there's anything you've seen that you like on our website or elsewhere, please bring along a picture to show us. If you're not sure, not to worry, we can show you some of our previous bespoke and stock pieces for inspiration!

How long does it take to commission a piece?

Each bespoke journey is different so we usually estimate the length of the process on an individual basis. Some can proceed very quickly from the initial consultation to the finished item, whilst others can take a little longer if we need to refine any designs or source a particularly rare gem. Once the final design is agreed, and we've shown you some beautfiul gems, we generally deliver the finished item in four to five weeks. This allows our exceptionally talented goldsmiths, polishers and setters time to create your masterpiece. We will always let you know the timescale we anticipate before starting to make your piece. Please let us know at the beginning of the process if you have a special date in mind that you would like your piece ready for.

Is it more expensive to go bespoke?

At Aril Jewels, we never charge for our design consulations, hand design work or sourcing some perfect gem options for you to see. Also, since we always work in the same traditional way - from initial hand sketches and renderings to selecting the gems by hand and then to a handmade piece - our bespoke pieces are no more expensive than our stock items. We work with the same suppliers as many of the big Bond Street names, so rest assured when you come to us you are commissioning a stunning, future heirloom of the highest quality. However, since we work with much lower overheads than Bond Street, you're getting a steal!

WHAT IF I ALREADY HAVE SOME JEWELLERY AND I WANT IT TO BE REMOUNTED OR REDESIGNED?

We can definitely help! We will take a look at your jewellery and make some suggestions as to whether the stones can be reset into a new piece. We will usually ask to see your jewellery in person so that we can take a look at the gems and take measurements.

When do I have to pay?

For our bespoke commissions, once the final design has been agreed and you have picked a gem from our carefully selected collection, we will quote you the finished price. If you are happy to proceed, we ask for a 50% deposit to set the ball rolling. We will then ask you for the balance just prior to delivery.

WHAT IF I WANT A RING TO BE A SURPRISE BUT I DON'T KNOW THE FINGER SIZE?

We may ask if you have access to any other rings they wear so we can get a rough idea of their size. If you don't, we would suggest an average size of M or N, and ask you to return the ring to us for sizing after the big day you give it to them. We offer complimentary resizing within the first three months of purchase.

WHAT IF I LIVE OUTSIDE THE UK?

That's no problem! We can do the whole process remotely, speaking to you via Whatsapp or video chat, keeping you in the loop the whole way through. We also offer complimentary international shipping for any piece over £2,500. Please note that we ship your item with customs and duties unpaid. Therefore, you will be contacted by our  courier in advance of delivery for collection of these fees which are payable directly to the courier. Duties and taxes are non-refundable.

WHAT IF I CHANGE MY MIND?

We will make sure you are happy and excited about every detail of your dream jewel, holding your hand through the whole journey. You'll see your piece coming to life through sketches, gem layouts and a hand painted rendering before we ask you if you would like to commit to going ahead with the commission. From this point, your 50% deposit is non-refundable and all bespoke pieces cannot be returned as they have been made especially for you.  This deposit goes towards the gems, materials and hard work going into your jewel.
